After Manchester United’s loss on Saturday to Portsmouth both Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlos Queiroz criticised the referee and for this, they’re both required to explain their comments to the FA.

I’m no fan of Man Utd but I’d like an explanation from Keith Hackett, the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board on the appalling performance of referee Martin Atkinson. How did he fail to give Lassana Diarra a yellow card for his foul on Christano Ronaldo in the opening minutes or in the seventh minute why wasn’t a penalty awarded United against Sylvain Distin for yet another foul on Ronaldo.

Whilst this is the standard of refereeing we’ve come to expect, when is it going to improve. Don’t expect any answers from Keith Hackett; instead expect fines for Ferguson and Queiroz.
