One shouldn’t really be surprised, on the one hand Shadow education secretary Michael Gove criticises the likes of Nuts and Zoo but on the other hand has been accepting donations from Red Fig a company closely linked to Nuts TV. In one of Red Figs press release it writes of Nuts TV.
Programming highlights include: Fit and Fearless, where young ladies, aided by spirit medium Ian Lawman, travel across the UK seeking out paranormal experiences and Britain’s Fittest Barmaid, which invites the Nation’s top pint pullers to show off their physical skills as they journey across the country.
Now how does that sit with Gove’s speech?
I believe we need to ask tough questions about the instant-hit hedonism celebrated by the modern men’s magazines targeted at younger males.
Titles such as Nuts and Zoo paint a picture of women as permanently, lasciviously, uncomplicatedly available.
We should ask those who make profits out of reveling in, or encouraging, selfish irresponsibility among young men what they think they’re doing.
The relationship between these titles and their readers is a relationship in which the rest of us have an interest.
The images they use and project reinforce a very narrow conception of beauty and a shallow approach towards women. They celebrate thrill-seeking and instant gratification without ever allowing any thought of responsibility towards others, or commitment, to intrude. Source: Sky News.
Fine words Mr. Grove but your actions don’t back them up, then again that’s typical of the Tories.
Hat Tip: Liberal Conspiracy.
