Avant Browser

Microsoft has given us the choice of 12 browsers and I’ve started trialling them – given each one a week – so I’ve been using Avant for a week now.

First off Avant looks the part and has all the options you’d need, that said it’s configured to use the Bing search engine and not Google – so I thought I’d give Bing a try too.

The first sign of trouble with Avant came after installing when it crashed my laptop – I put that down to one of those things that happens with windows – however Avant persistently froze and often gave the message “Out of Memory at line: 4556″ – particularly after visiting Gigwise.

Using Avant just wasn’t a pleasant experience – it failed far too many times I use iGoogle and Google Docs the formerly worked mostly and the latter failed to work at all. Then there’s history and passwords I use a XP laptop for work and a Vista laptop for home on Vista history is no existent and passwords on both is a best erratic.

To be honest it’s a pleasure to be moving on – Avant is full of far too many errors to be useable – this week I’m trialling FlashPeak’s SlimBrowser.

Oh I forgot, Bing – not a patch on Google – don’t bother with it.
